Career Ladder Project

ITAG's mission is to create and sustain a regional partnership in Southeastern Pennsylvania that encourages technology companies and companies that use technology to grow their businesses in an increasingly sophisticated global marketplace. This is accomplished by working closely with participating companies, economic development agencies, and education/training partners to leverage workforce and business development resources on behalf of ITAG members.

Among the challenges facing our technology driven economy is the ability to attract, retain and develop skilled workers. Careers in the Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) however, are not as well defined as those in more traditional industries. This document attempts to define the major career categories within the ICT sector, describe existing job opportunities within those career categories, and communicate the skills, education and experience an individual will likely need to be eligible for those opportunities in Southeast Pennsylvania.

The research that led to the development of the below document was performed by the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL). CAEL began by reviewing existing career pathway models and career development resources from elsewhere in the nation. Using information from ICT industry associations, educational institutions, government labor market information, and internet job search resources, CAEL defined the major job families, job roles, education and experience requirements and salary ranges. This information was shared with and examined by representatives of Southeast Pennsylvania ICT firms and educators who further refined this information as it applies in this region.
